Non 12 Step Programs are in-step

Telling an alcoholic or an addict they have to find religion, is not necessarily a very good idea. The reason why it is so important to have drug rehab treatment centers who offer a non faith based program is for the sake of the person's right to not have religion forced upon them. Not everybody like the idea of religion, least of all someone who is about as far away from it as humanly possible. Ideally, a treatment center should offer both a 12 step based program and a secular alternative program and let the person decide.  A recent court case made it clear it is against an atheist's constitutional rights to force them to complete a rehab which is a 12 step and therefore a faith based rehab.

Addiction Treatment is All About Change

Much of drug addiction treatment is about change. The process of change entails every aspect of the addict's life. Treatment for drug addiction is designed to show the addict what their drug abuse behavior is doing to themselves and those around them. Most addicts wrongfully believe they are not hurting anyone else. So the first thing to change is how they perceive the effects of using drugs. Change is primarily about thinking and acting differently. The addict needs to start substituting new people and places. Change takes time and effort. Most addicts need to admit they have a problem and become willing to accept help. Good treatment centers motivate their clients to stay the course and not use, no matter what happens.

Alcohol Rehabilitation In A Non Traditional 12 - Step Program

Alcohol Rehabilitation is the process of getting rid of a person's dependence on alcohol. A person can be dependent on alcohol in two ways - physical and psychological. Human brain often gets used to the presence of a substance in a body if that substance is abused. For example, if a person drinks a lot, his or her brain will get used to the extra alcohol present in the body and when the alcohol is absent, the person will feel uncomfortable until he/she drinks again. Psychological dependence usually means that a person does not feel "complete" or "normal" unless/he has had alcohol. Various treatment techniques like the non 12 step program helps patients deal with physical and psychological depends on alcohol.
