Non 12 Step Rehab Programs Offer Alternatives

I think the drug alcohol rehab business has become obsolete and out of touch with the times. Treatment and rehab should not be very much about going to 12 step meetings. And, unfortunately, all to often, that is what it is, primarily.  And just so you know I am not anti AA, let me say, personally, I go to a 12 step meeting every day. I think 12 step meetings are one of the best things in the world. What they are not is treatment. The 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, among others, are support groups which helps a recovering alcoholic or drug addict stay clean and or sober. Or, as someone once said, AA is there to keep someone sober, not to get them sober. So before picking the best drug alcohol rehab, consider a program which considers itself, a non 12 step program.

Treatment For Drinking Problem With Non 12 Step Rehab Program

Admitting you have a drinking problem is sometimes tougher than actually overcoming your alcohol addiction. Once alcohol interferes with any area of someone's life, whether it be job, family, physical or personal, that individual has a drinking problem.  Alcoholics can be any age and usually has been a heavy drinker for many years or developed the problem later in life due to situational problems that came up in their life.  A non 12 step drug rehab treatment center offers patients an alternative to the regular AA 12 step programs, giving patients individualized treatment that is effective for their needs.  Malibu Horizon's non 12 step rehab programs give patients the option whether or not to not attend AA meetings during treatment, as it is more of a support group for aftercare treatment.

Substance Abuse Treatment In A Treatment Center

Many people who have a drug problem won't admit it, and instead deny it to free themselves of embarrassment or concealment.  Some people don't want to label themselves as a "substance abuser" as they feel it will affect their self-esteem, as well as their social, educational and occupational opportunities.  Many don't admit to it because they think they have their life under control, but everyone can see that they don't. Substance abuse affects all aspects of your life and others around you.  Substance abuse treatment can help you recover from through a safe and relaxing process that makes life better for you physically and mentally.  The goal of a substance abuse or drug alcohol treatment center is to help their patients improve their overall life and continue sobriety.
