Non 12 Step Recovery Programs

There are a limited number of recovery programs which offer non 12 Step treatment. Most of them are more holistic in their philosophy. They place more emphasis on exercise, nutrition and clinical therapy. No two treatment centers are alike. Each has its own unique style. The ideal is to match the programs that the facility offers with the needs and issues of the person. For example, some treatment centers do a much better job of treating patients with a co-occurring mood disorder, such as depression. Finding the right non 12 Step recovery treatment program can be a challenge. There are many factors to consider. There are a limited number of non 12 Step programs. When you are choosing which program is right, keep in mind there is no absolutely perfect program.

Picking the Right Recovery Program

The most successful facilities provide a more individualized approach with patent-specific counseling and activities. They have a better qualified staff and take a more modern approach.  They provide more one on one therapy and understand that alcoholism and addiction are brain diseases which must be treated in a multidimensional fashion.
Drug rehab, alcohol treatment centers are available with different styles, and specialties. When we say drug rehab or alcohol treatment center, we're referring specifically to a residential facility where a patient stays full-time. Usually the length of stay is for 30 days and nights. There is a very wide range in the level of quality. There are very low quality rehabs and there are very high quality alcohol drug rehabilitation centers. It can be difficult to distinguish the levels of quality over the phone or viewing on the internet. The process of finding the best drug rehab requires a combination of research and determination.  Not all rehab treatment centers are alike. Each has its own unique features, strengths and weaknesses.

10 Standards for Evaluating a Drug Alcohol Recovery Program

Currently, there is no standardized and regulated system of rating and ranking drug rehabs and alcohol treatment centers.  Without guidelines, choosing the best rehab can be a very difficult and daunting task.

Client to Staff Ratio

There is no greater factor for clinical integrity than client to therapist ratio. Therapists need to be well educated and experienced. The ratio of patients to therapists should be low.  Each patient deserves to have a therapist who has the time and energy to get to know them. A low ration allows the therapist time to provide good quality counseling and clinical work.

Quality of the staff

A highly qualified and experienced staff is instrumental in teaching the clients how to change their behavior.  A treatment center is only as good as their staff. The level of education and experience is especially important. Qualified therapists should have at least a Master's Level degree in Social Work and Behavioral Science.

Well Rounded, Clinically Oriented Program

This can be a difficult thing to assess. Most programs offer a routine schedule to keep their clients busy and on track. A key component is the frequency each client meets with his/her primary care therapist for one on one treatment. Group therapy is fine, however there is no substitute for one on one interaction with their primary therapist. This relationship is the core of a successful treatment program.

Uniqueness

What makes one drug rehab treatment center stand out from all the others? What types of therapy and activities do they offer that other rehabs do not? Therapies and activities such as yoga, tai chi, art, music, equine and participation in group projects are important elements of the best rehabs.

Quality of the Facilities

The structure and physical surroundings of the rehab facility are more important than you might think. Some drug rehab alcohol treatment centers house their clients in apartments, "off campus".  Understandably this is not as good as an enclosed residential setting. The nicer the facility the easier it is to build a client's self worth and self esteem and help them learn the value of a healthy and happy lifestyle.

Success Rate

Determining the actual success rate of a program can be very difficult.  Research the facility thoroughly. Ask pointed questions when speaking with the facilities' contact person and listen carefully. If they hesitate in answering your questions, ask to speak with the therapists or doctors.

Follow up care

One of the most important and most overlooked points of a good rehab treatment center is aftercare.  Aftercare is what plans and activities a program provides after the person leaves treatment. The best rehabs offer a solid plan to ensure their clients continue the process after leaving the treatment facility.

Their Attitude

Are all the staff members friendly and well informed? Are they willing to help and happy to provide information and answers to all your questions?
